Taking inspiration from Charles & Ray Eames, I had to pick two opposites along with a color scheme to create a cohesive window storefront that could be installed in a storefront on Michigan Avenue. Eames's furniture has a Mid-Century Modern flare which is something I wanted to play with when creating this storefront. I researched different shapes seen during the Mid-Century Modern design period and wanted to play with those forms to execute the opposites I had chosen.
From left to right, the pieces I chose to display are the LCW chair, the Eames Molded Plastic Armchair, and the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman.
The two opposites I chose were round v. sharp. The trickiest part of this assignment was the transition between the two. I started to mess around with what shapes fit the opposing categories and how can I layer and mesh them together to create a seamless transition between the two.
The color scheme I chose was a triad, composed of the colors blue, red, and yellow. I used very high saturation throughout the window, with the walls, ceiling, and floors having tints and shades of the main three colors.
